Hi everybody, my name is Sunday, i've been sewing since i was probably 14 or 15. Just started quilting a few years ago and love it. I seem to have one big problem though that's driving me crazy. I see all these wonderful scrap quilts that look like they were just planned to be that way. I just amazes me. I have all this scrap material and would love to make one but i cant for the life of me figure out what would look good and what wont. How do i fugure this out?

Welcome!

I think the most important thing to think of for planning a scrap quilt is contrast. Lots of patterns for scrap quilts specify "light" and "dark" fabrics. If you use any "medium" contrast fabrics, then you will need to consider more carefully where to place them. Some multicolor fabrics are difficult to deal because some parts are light and other parts are dark, so you also have to consider those carefully. One thing you may wish to purchase is a tool to help you see the contrast better. There are some red and green plastic transparent pieces that can help.

Hello and welcome. Scrap quilting is an art where you must allow yourself to not plan.

Welcome from the CA desert. I love scrappys too. I have done them by seperating my scraps into three piles (dark, medium & light) and choosing alternatly from each pile for contrast and even distribution of color.
