Hi, From California! Is it ok to ask a question here?

The regulator is a rather expensive addition to the machine and allows you to do different kinds of work. My machine has one and I use it when I am working on complicated, small patterns where I work more slowly and with lots of starts and stops. They do have benefits and for me it helped to build my confidence when learning to do free motion quilting on my long arm machine.

Welcome from OHIO! I have the Viking Mega Quilter, which is the same machine as the Janome 1600 ad the Pfaff Grand Quilter. It came with a stitch regulator and I used it for the first six months or so, but then I removed it. It's a great tool while you're learning to use the machine, but after awhile, unplug it and try the patterns without using it. If I had to pay for one, I would just learn without it.
