Default Hi from East Texas!!

Hi I am Linda (Txsuthrn). I live in the pretty green (usually) part of Texas!! I am a widow lost my husband June 25 a year ago and its been a hard year. I have a shadow that lives with me an English Bulldog female named Presley!! I also have an african Grey parrot named Barney who talks up a storm, he recently started saying wee wee.. I think from a commerical on Tv.. It is rather strange to unlock the door and be greeted with " wee wee, hello Barney!!" lol.. Life is never dull any. I just retired June 1st from 33 years of teaching.. not sure how I feel about it and won't know until school starts back I imagine.
I have sewed for years made most of my clothes and my nieces clothes many years ago.. Since I am retired now and have time to sew again I think I'd like to learn to quilt. My oldest sister has a quilting group at her church and I am going with her next Tuesday to see what it is like. I found this site and have gotten a lot of ideas especially about organizing mysewing room!!!
Looking forward to meeting all of you and learning, learning, learning!! lol

Welcome to the board Linda. I am truly sorry for your loss. I don't know what that is like to lose a spouse, but I do know the unfortunate loss of a child. My friend had/has a an African Grey parrot. The first one was named Pete, the 2nd one was named after the ship from the movie A Perfect Storm, Andrea. You will find lots of help on here and meet great people online/offline. I've enjoyed it very much. I've only been sewing since 2010. I've gotten better at it by participating in some monthly swaps.

Again, welcome to board!!

Monique

Hello Linda and welcome from south central Kentucky. I am sorry for your loss. My grandson wants an English Bulldog for his birthday next year. He will be 13. He wants to name him Bronx (he is a Yankee fan)! My boss has 3 parrots at his house and brings "Cookie" to work with him sometimes. I am sure after teaching for 33 years you will miss it, but keep yourself busy and enjoy yourself. Again, Welcome!!

Hi Linda,
I too live in the piney woods by a lake (pond), but in Maine.
You will find lots of links to good training sites on QB and you could do worse than join in the free block of the month course at http://www.craftsy.com/class/The-Cra...f-the-Month/50. All the blocks remain on line so you could start at the beginning and work your way up, and they have other courses you can pay for if you like them enough. Also, I just discovered http://inlovewiththreads.wordpress.c...fe-you-decide/
and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6apl...feature=relmfu which are useful and might lead you to other good ideas and bloggers who provide free tutorials. Good luck with your new hobby.

Thanks so much for the warm welcomes!! I'm taking a break from folding fabric right now lol. I inherited a LOT from my mother in law and I had a small stash myself!!!
I'll head over to Craftsy right now and take a look.

There's lots to learn on this wonderful board. Have you checked out the Tutorials section?? Great stuff there! Congratulations on your retirement and good luck organizing your sewing room. Be sure to post pictures when you get it done!
