Default Hi!

Fairly new to quilting, but have been doing heirloom sewing, applique, and even cutwork before using an embroidery machine. Have a Pfaff 2170. I quilt as you go, quilt in the hoop, and embroider the blocks.

I don't follow fashion and tend to do things my way. I sew most of my own shirts. I've been able to wear pants and my own designer shirts wherever I've worked.

I don't care for the way quilts are bound now - my grandmother did quilts that had a far wider binding that looked more like a border. I have not seen anything like that for years. It looked more like blanket binding applied to a quilt. Would like to figure that one out.

I have 3 cats - a Siamese, a Snowshoe, and a Feral - all are nuts and I love them dearly. We did have ferrets. My daughter kept her ferrets in the sewing room and I had their company for years.

I also like astronomy (have telescopes), technology, and photography.

I've seen some answers to questions I've had for years already.

Welcome from Mid-Missouri. Looking forward to seeing your work and learning what you have to share.
If your talking about satin binding you can buy that. If your talking about reg cotten binding you can make that.
Depending on how wide you want the binding you have to cut strips 3 times the width of the finished binding. you the fold that in half and press, then you open that up and fold the edges into the center and press. Lots of times they turned the backing to the front for a finnish and I like the looks of that.

Welcome from Ontario, Canada. Some people still use the wide binding you can buy to finish a quilt edge. It is really nice in the satin blanket binding on baby quilts.
