Welcome from Corpus Christi! As you probably know templates aren't hard to make if you have some thin plastic and kitchen/utility scissors. I have printed up shapes/templates from the internet. Good template material and dirt cheap is gift boxes in wrapping and gift card departments. Anything will do that works for you!!

Right now I want to concentrate on small projects, Christmas stockings, placemats, mug rugs, coasters, lap throws and that sort of thing. My eyes are almost 68 years old and I suspect bigger projects will never get completed. I am just getting smaller pieces of fabric for now since money is really tight and I need to make Christmas gifts. I love most bright colors, particularily blues. As I am getting older, my tastes have changed a lot! Thanks for the welcome.

Hi Louise, welcome.
Just a note: Start going to quilt shop hops. They often give away a free little gift or piece of fabric (sometimes even a fat quarter), and you can be entered in the free drawings for the grand prize or baskets of goodies, this way you can build up your quilt supplies and fabric stash at a minimum price.
