Welcome from beautiful western NC. I sewed for many years in my teens and twenties, making clothes. After I married and had boys, I quit sewing. After I retired from teaching, I decided to learn to quilt as both my grandmothers quilted, although my mom hated the thought. So I took a few classes and have made several quilts. I'm not currently working on a project as I had rotator cuff surgery, and my left arm is still somewhat "unusable"!

OUCH! So sorry to hear about your surgery, I hope you get to feeling better soon! My mom also didn't quilt but she did a number of other things, mostly embroidery work, but sewing wasn't her thing.
