Welcome from Adrian, MI ~ when you received your Brother machine did it come with the manual? If not sometimes you can find them on the internet

It did come with a manual. Being a visual learner, I don't learn so well by reading; I learn by seeing. I have figured out quite a bit more about the machine, though, since posting my introduction. Playing around with it revealed a lot to me. I've not tried the embroidery features yet. I wanted to learn the simple sewing features first, which I did, finally, last night.
