I have been quilting since last summer when our church started a prayer quilt ministry and have been hooked ever since! I'm sewing on a Singer Ingenuinity I bought at WalMart and it does fine but hoping DH will buy me an upgrade for my birthday in May. Any suggestions? I've seen the Singer Project Runway on line or should I think about a Viking?

Look at all the models first and list what you want in a machine, but I love my Janomes. Welcome to the quilting workld

If you are close to a Viking dealer, I would check on their gently used machines. Our dealer takes trade-ins on upgrades, and you can get some great buys. I am on my 2nd. Viking (dau. has my first on a long term loan) and have had great experiences with them. A gal friend recently treated herself to an adopted (used) Viking and feels like she has died and gone to heaven compared to her old machine. Good luck whatever you chose, you will want to shop carefully, as will be with you a long time.

Welcome to the board from Ireland. I may be biased, but I have the impression that Singer doesn't have the best of reputations for their more modern machines.

I would suggest you look for a Brother or Janome machine and buy it from a dealer rather than a Walmart or Joan's etc. They will come with warranties and often free mainteance for a year. You will always have someone to give you service. Singer, late models are not as good as their early ones. Elna is also a machine that is good and perhaps a bit less expensive. Again I urge you to buy froma dealer. By the way. Welcome.
