Hi All, I very excited to be joining my first forum. I took a quilting class and created a sampler about 2 years ago and loved it. Since then, I let my hobbies slide and have just dabbled. I now realize that Quilting is not just fun, it's very therapeutic for me. So I'm resolved to spend some time regularly on whatever project I'm involved in. What's that you ask? I'm creating a wall hanging in memory of my beloved dad who died on October 1. I have asked mom for a large collection of Dad's shirts, pants, etc, and I want to create appliques of those symbols that remind and my brothers of him, such as: tractor, hammer, playing cards, etc. I am so excited at this idea and I am also looking for ideas about how to design this. If anyone has done anything like this or has an idea for me, I would be blessed. I am renewed by this idea and the friendliness of this quilting board. I'm looking forward to making some quilting friends as well. Thank you, Take Care, God Bless and enjoy this Blessed Holiday Season.

Hi Sue, welcome from NJ I am going to do one for my Aunt using dress shirts of his and she has asked if I can put his pic on it, so I will. It will be sometime before I can get to it, I have a waiting list, lol!

Welcome from Indiana. I too am a newbie to this forum and enjoy it so much. Just a thought for your project which is a wonderful idea... when you use a shirt, consider the pocket. You can use it to hold something special that your father used or a picture of him.

Welcome from a fellow Michigander. This board will quickly become your "happy" place to be.

I really like your applique symbols idea. See, you're teaching us things already. :)
