I have been reading for a few days and thought that it was time to introduce myself. Sewing since elementary school and quilting for about 30 years. Love to write patterns and teach. Have attended the same retreat (where I teach) for 20 years.
Other huge interests are gardening and knitting. Aerospace engineer by day. Creative diva by night. Very patient DH.
Question: I need references for a brand new quilter. Normally I would just go on over and help her out, but it is a 30 mile drive each way and so am trying to help her virtually. She loves step by step instructions (my teaching style) and so I am looking for books or online resources that will suit her style. Helped her make a pillowcase about 3 years ago. It was her first sewing project and she has kept my contact info since. Life has settled for her and so now is her time to learn.
TIA,
DebraB

Hello from Sunny California,
This board has wonderful resources - look at the Tutorial section of the board - lots of step by step instructions with visuals. I have learned alot - I think most of us are self-taught and find the tutorials to be extremely helpful.
Good luck with you student. Teresa

Welcome from North Central PA.
As an intermediate newbie, I found many helpful videos on You tube. Missouri Quilt Co has a lot, then there is Sew on TV, there are many more, but their names escape me right now. Just google quilting and you will find a wealth of info. I too learn best by seeing, so I focused my search on videos. There are also many tutorials on various blog sites with pics as well as on this board.
Good luck.

If you are looking for easy patterns, Quilt In A Day from Eleanor Burns has the easiest, step-by-step patterns I have ever seen.
