    Default New quilter from CT

    Hello there.
I'm what you would call a novice quilter. In fact, if there were a term below that then that would be me. I really want to learn to quilt. I have admired quilts and the people who make them for ages. But I'm nervous to start. Not sure where to begin. I hope to find some Guidance here and maybe some new friends. I have a sewing machine (not even sure how to use it) and the materials from a class I took a few years ago. Perhaps I should visit a local fabric shop and hope they're nice?

Welcome from Ontario, Canada. If you have a local quilt shop that offers basic lessons then that is a plus. You can learn al lot from youtube videos now. You might like to watch Jenny Doan from the Missouri Star Quilt Co. for a few pointers.

A big Welcome from Texas. And, I agree that the Missouri Star Quilt Shop tutorials are awesome.

Welcome from New Hampshire. Yes, go to the quilt shop, ask if they offer a beginner class. Get the basic supplies (rotary cutter, cutting mat, ruler, a seam ripper, and straight pins.). We will be here on the board to guide you along with your questions. Enjoy the new hobby!

Welcome from southern most Nevada. You don't give any clues to your age but don't overlook you tube videos for at home help and check out the library too. You probably have some quilt guilds in the area. When I got hooked it was by the quilting programs on PBS television.

Welcome from NY state! I do like the suggestion from one of the qb members about getting the basics. However, I'd pick them up from JoAnn's with a coupon. Welcome again!

Welcome from Adrian, MI ~ you have certainly come to the right spot for help. I would suggest you start with a small project and work your way up to something bigger like a lap quilt in a simple pattern ~ Good Luck
