Have been a crafter of sorts for years, also have had a interest in quilting for a long time, but never learned to sew or to even use a sewing machine. until now. My husband bought me the very first sewing machine i have ever owned 2 weeks ago. i also got myself some material and all the tools i need to start my first quilt project.
still have not started a project. i have only watched videos on youtube and website instructions learning how to cut squares and how to make different design blocks. i have not been having luck with getting them even yet, but i have been told practice makes perfect, so i am not letting myself get discourage, but i think i still need to learn more about seam allowance. as well as getting my charms cut exact.
if anyone has any tips on how to get the cuts to come out exact, please post a reply..
thanks and hope to get some great info from this message board as time goes along.

Greetings and welcome from New York state! It's so wonderful that you are starting to quilt! You will find lots of friendly and helpful people here, so feel free to ask any question! No question too silly or 'dumb'.

Welcome from CA, but originally born and raised in Milton, lo those many years ago.

Good for you starting a new, safe addition. This will change your life and make you proud of yourself when you finish a lovely quilt or some other work of art.

Hi Yvette, welcome from Germany and enjoy being around :D . As a newbie myself, I find it helpful to "lock the seams" with a pin before joining rows together. You just stick the pin EXACTLY through the seams of your blocks, which keeps them in place. Hope this helps a bit.
