Hi everyone. My name is Lorayne and I'm from the UK. I am getting a new machine for my birthday and am looking forward to quilting. I only have just over a week to go.

The main decision is which machine to go for. Also what other things I need to get to make sure I'm kitted out. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Hi from Ohio! I have an Elna. It just depends on what you can get locally and how many fancy stitches you may want. My suggestion is try out all of the machines that a shop has and see how each one handles. Good Luck and have a Happy Birthday!

Welcome from Ontario, Canada. Most quilters today use: sewing machine, rotary cutter, rotary ruler and cutting mat, quilting pins, thread, quilt batt and lots of fabric. Have fun!

Welcome from central Texas. I might add that you should also feel comfortable with the sewing machine dealer. The support you get (or don't get) from the dealer and staff can make or break the pleasure you get from your new machine. Have fun!

Thank you all for your messages. They have been helpful. I think I'll definitely try a few machines before I decide. I think it seems more of a personal choice than one great brand.
