Hi everyone! My name is Chris and I am "brand spankin" new to quilting! LOL! I've been a crafter for MANY years, mostly paper crafting and crocheting, but I've never been much of a seamstress. I feel it's time to give it a try! I'm really hoping to start my first quilt this year! I'm originally from West Virginia, but feel like a native here in Arizona as I've been here for about 18 years. All I have to work with is a VERY inexpensive Singer that has about five stitches to choose from in straight or zigzag! LOL! Can I even hope for any success using this machine? I'm really happy to be here and look forward to chatting with you again in the future!

My sweet girl

Welcome Chris from West Virginia, What part of WV are you from? I have a son out there in Queen Creek AZ, we were just out there last July to visit.

Chris Kieffer 01-06-2011 01:53 PM

Hi! I was born in Parkersburg but did most of my growing up in Williamstown. Where in WV are you? I know where Queen Creek is...it's quite a little hike from where I am in Glendale.

grammyj 01-06-2011 01:57 PM

I live in Kenova, it's the most south western point of WV where the 2 rivers meet. Across the Ohio river is Ohio and across the Big Sandy river is Kentucky. It;s just out side of Huntington.

Welcome to the Board Chris..all the way from Mesa! Also, welcome to quilting...wont be long now and you will be addicted. There is a Quilt show at the Arizona State Fairgrounds on the 27th, 28th and 29th, you should try to come on out. We are trying to arrange a Meet and Greet with some of the quilters from the Board. http://www.quiltingboard.com/tpr?p=2200425&t=86815
hope you can make it.

Welcome from Virginia

Chris Kieffer 01-06-2011 02:04 PM

I've been to Huntington...so I think I know about where you are! Williamstown is right across the Ohio river from Marietta, Ohio. In the winter when the leaves were down, we could watch the barges going down the river. I love Arizona, but I do miss the green and changing seasons of back home.

Chris Kieffer 01-06-2011 02:07 PM

Hi, thank you! I would love to try to make it to the fairgrounds one of those days! I think I'll be in Tucson on the 29th, but maybe one of the other two days! Let me know when and where you plan to meet!

My son misses the seasons too. He's been out there 20 years.

Chris Kieffer 01-06-2011 02:08 PM

Thank you!

Chris Kieffer 01-06-2011 02:10 PM

I'm sure he does miss it! That's a hard one to leave behind. But just a quick two hour drive north and we can get a taste of the seasons again!

Hi from Mesa, AZ. A good quilt shop to visit in Glendale is Mulqueens. They are at 7838 N. 59th ave. They also have a shop in Mesa, which is the one I visit often. They have many classes and very good quality of fabric.
