My name is Patty and although I've been lurking on the board for about a month, decided it was time to register so I can participate too. Born and raised in IL and spent 29 years in the LaSalle/Peru area. Husband retired and we relocated to the Villages, FL in Aug. 2005 and we love it here. Our priorities in the move were golf for hubby, water aerobics and quilting for me and there is plenty of everything else here as well. Self taught quilter beginning the year we were married in 1963 until now. My avatar is the very first quilt started and took me 38 years to complete as I had a lot of learning to do but also did a lot of other quilts in between. Love all of the quilts I've done but this is special to me for some odd reason. My quilts tend to go to our 2 children and the 7 grandchildren we have between them. We welcomed our son in law and daughter in law into the family with one of my special hand made quilts. Each grandchild came home from the hospital wrapped in a Grammy quilt and each now has a recently finished twin quilt for their beds. I machine piece (not too fond of the repairs needed to the 2 hand pieced quilts I did) and hand quilt although I'm now learning how to do some machine quilting - just because. Just bought a new Pfaff Quilt Expression 4.0 and love it. I hear I'm unique in that I don't use a frame or hoop to quilt but I do pin baste and then hand baste 2 inches apart in both directions. My quilts are very portable and go with me to our chapter meetings and another sewing group I belong to. Have been enjoying lurking on this board.
