Hi from The Jersey Shore
Hi my name is Rose and I just got back into quilting very recently. As a matter of fact Hurricane Sandy is what me want to go back to quilting, I figured I could have been hand quilting quilt tops while we had no electric or heat. Since the storm, I have been able to finish one quilt top, a disappearing 9 patch that took me about 10 days to cut, piece on my new sewing machine and place the border around. It was done in all fall colors of oranges, golds, browns and greens with orange being the primary color. Tomorrow I am going to sandwich the quilt and get it into my 18" quilting hoop to hand quilt. This upcoming week I will be cutting a stack and whack out of the following fabric....
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8485/8...3eec88de_b.jpg I also picked out my 20 fabrics for a Twisted Bargello class I will be taking in January, I can't wait. So I guess a bit more about me...I'm a school bus driver for the town I live in, a wife, a mom to 3 grown children of which my son is in the military AND a grandmom. My youngest daughter and the baby live with us and one of her friends who she went to high school with also lives with us due to a bad family situation. We live in Monmouth County NJ, one of the hardest hit counties from Sandy. Thankfully the only damage we received from the storm were a few downed trees, some flashing off of our house and a very uncomfortable extended period of no electric, no heat, no stove, and worst of all no hot water (I'll tell you freezing cold showers are not fun). It's very sad though to drive just a couple miles away and see the amount of devastation this storm caused and the amount of peoples lives who were destroyed in less than a 24 hour period. BUT, we are Jersey Strong and we will get things back together better then they ever were. Look forward to chatting with everyone and joining some swaps. Rosie the Wyldwytch:thumbup: |
Welcome from Ontario, Canada. I am glad you have your quilting to keep you busy through the tough times. I have watched the coverage of Sandy on the TV and know it will take years for the worst hit areas to recover. I can't wait to see how your stack and whack comes out with your awesome fabric.

Hi there - you wild thing! I am from NJ originally and my family members still live there. As soon as they let folks back into Lavallette - I'll be down for more cleaning up at my Dad's house. What a mess!
It's always good to have a project ready for a no power situation. Glad you decided to join us in this crazy passion. I just layered and basted a UFO to take with me when I go. There will be plenty of waiting time and no energy to do anything else! Can't wait to see what you have to share here. Welcome! |

Hi from Ohio and glad you are ok from the storm!
|
Hi Rose from another Jersey Girl. So sorry to hear of the destruction you and many of your neighbors are dealing with. We were quite fortunate where we are. Just days of no power. Easy by comparison. The quilting will help ease the pain.

Hi Rosie, welcome from New Hampshire.
Glad you escaped most of Sandy's ravages. I have 2 quilts almost finished for the family of a good friend whose homes were destroyed in Breezy Point and the Rockaways. |
Rosie, Welcome and my quilting has kept me sane all though this since we do own a house on LBI...which has been totally gutted. While we were waiting to be able to go back on the island to access the damages I sewed the blocks for two queen size quilt tops Crazy Quilt II pattern...so now all I have to do is put them together. But it has been a nerve racking three weeks....fist is knowing if we still had a house...then finding out we got 27 inches of water then everything that I own put out to the curb.....But we are Jersey Strong...meeting up with the wind adjuster today....thank goodness we never even lost power at the other house.....but I am looking forward to getting everything done by April l I will be ready to go back.
