Hi

I am Susie from Kansas City MO area. I am fairly new to quilting. One of my daughters asked if I would make a quilt for her babies, so I did. Not sure I did much right with those quilts, but I did what I thought should be done. I have been sewing for over 40years and figured it couldn't be too hard. I have made about 10 quilts since that time but still not sure I am doing it "right".

I now know enough to say I don't know much about quilting.....I get the straight of grain, bias etc. I understand the 1/4" seam line.....what I dont know is how to square up a quilt/or a block. Tricks like measuring the center of the quilt to get the correct length for the borders are not in my knowledge bank.

I am looking for a good basic book that will tell me how to properly make a quilt. Any suggestions????

Thank you

Susie

Welcome fom Ontario, Canada. You might see if there is a basic quilt class at our local quilt shop that you can take. You can look for books at the library or look on the Internet. Jenny Doan has one good videos for the Missouri Star Quilt Co. Start with a table runner or placemats and move on to bigger things as you gain confidence.

Welcome from Washington State! I went to my local library and they had quite a selection of quilting books. That would be my suggestions. I wrote down the titles of the ones I thought would be useful to have on hand, and I will probably be picking them up as I can. :) One book in specific had a bunch of helpful hints. It was Donna Kooler's encyclopedia of quilting.
