I'm brand new-just joined....
Hello
I just joined this group- I am Lorraine. I live in Florida and enjoy many crafts, especially crochet. I have always wanted to learn quilting and a few years ago made my first one. It didn't turn out as nice as I expected it to as it was a 5 year project....working on it just every now and then. I recently met a neighbor who does wonderful quilts and so I have now gained some confidence that i can do better this time. I will LOVE to make a queen size log cabin quilt with 12" squares. I have no idea how to figure out yardages. I would like 1 color used for each center square, then 5 lights, 5 darks. I know what I want but have no idea how to go about figuring it out. I am not concerned about a back fabric just yet and wouldn't be using sashings. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. |

Welcome, CraftyLady56!
One of my first quilts was a log cabin. They are pretty easy, and fun to do. Here's a link that might help: http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...in-t16544.html |
Thank you for that link--helpful but i have questions.
Using finished log widths of 1.25"--is this the cut sizes or after it is sewn? and finished center width of 2.5" |
I take that to be the after-sewing size. It computes: the center (finished) measures 2", plus there are four 1.25" (finished) strips on each side. 2" + 8x1.25" = 12".
