New from Alabama
Hi everyone, I am Sonya, a vintage machine collector, quilter, and home-schooling Mom to two teens. I have been sewing since I was about six years old using my mother's old machines.
I just met one of your members when I purchased her 301a last Friday and she invited me to join this group. My husband and I love getting old machines and watching them come back to life with a little love and tender cleaning. We blush when asked exactly how many machines we have, as we do not know the exact count, but, according to our youngest child, it is over 100. Most of our machines are in the 1920-1960 range, with a few as old as 1886, and one Singer XL-5000 from 2005. My husband prefers the Italian Necchi machines and I'm an old Singer girl from way back. My pride and joys are my Featherweights and 301a's, and all slant-0'matics and my treadle machines. I am currently working on 3 quilts and about to start a qotm with our local sewing circle. I look forward to getting to know everyone. |

Oh my goodness, what a delightful hobby! I am VERY new to sewing and can't even recall what I used in Home Ec. class back in the day (but I know I broke several needles). I can only imagine the wonderful history these machines in your home could tell. Thanks for sharing.

Souixzie, they do tell some stories. We sometimes get a beauty who tells of being loved and cherished by its owner. Others are used and the items in the drawers show that the owner used the machine all the time. Yet others were loved once, but something shiny and new came in and replaced them and they were delegated to the outside storage area. It really is cool to watch them all come alive again.
