Newbie looking for easy pattern

I want to make my first quilt for my son to take with him to college. I would like to have a plain center block that I can paint the school mascot on and then use the school colors to build out from there. Any suggestions?

Would you like to keep adding borders to the center block. I "can see" a large middle block with wide and/or
narrow borders all around matching/coordinating with the colors in the center block.

Thank you everyone. I have always wanted to quilt, but time has been an issue, now with my son gone, I will have time to fill. Thanks again.

Do you have a local quilt shop? If you were willing to buy the fabric from them and come in when they weren't busy they would probably help you make one like needles3 suggested.

I'm afraid not! Small town in a very rural area. Only place to get fabric is JoAnn's.

Hi scoutkim, welcome from central Florida. I would suggest that you get an XL t shirt with his college logo on it and use that for the center of the quilt. You could make a D9P for the surrounding blocks in his school colors. There are some great lessons on you tube. Billie Lauder also has a great tute on the D9P that is so easy. Good luck.

Warm Wishes is an easy (and free) pattern. You could change it up just a bit to make the center block your mascot block. Just google Warm wishes and you will find the pattern
