Thread: quilt carrier???

I don't have a pattern or picture. But here is a rough sketch how the carrier I use is made. You pile quilts in the center and carry by the dowel handles. you can use any size big square. Hem it all around. Cut out the rectangle from the folded over opposite corners. Insert dowel rod usually about 3/4" x 12". Upholstery fabric is good for these.

Oh, I forgot. I put velco on the corners that aren't cut. Fold over the contents and secure to each other.

I made this quilt carrier and I use it all of the time.

When I first joined a quilt group in Las Vegas, they were making this quilt bag. I love it!! Carries an awful lot and has plenty of pocket space. Holds a 12x18 cutting board along with rulers, books, thread, pin cushion, a couple of quilts, etc. I used packaged binding for the pocket edges (instead of turning hems) and all around the bag. Less expensive to make your own. Also, I put velcro on one side of the dowel closure so that I could take them out to wash it. Also came in handy when my son's dog thought the handles were a chew toy!!! It is made with the prequilted fabric, but you could make your own fabric, then cut it out! Hope this helps!!

ps. The 7" cut is the piece that goes all around the bag to make the bottom and sides. Of course, I got carried away and used what was left of the fabric, about 10", so it could even carry my machine!!
