Visit your library. They usually have tons of quilting books and you can look through and find the books that help you the most. Also, ask friends if their mom or grandma quilts, that would be a great source to get you in contact with a quilter. Quilters usually love to help other quilters.

You can check out youtube for hand quilting instructions, and basic sewing skills. There are a lot of people who only hand sew and quilt making quilts. Post a thread asking what books board members would recommend for a beginner, you'll have a list to check into. You can also find a lot of quilt stores who do online business too. There is a monthly online shop hop called Fab Shop Hop. And doing that you will see what the stores on there have to offer as you look for the bunny.

Welcome from southern California! You will do fine. My first quilts were hand pieced together and the trick is to keep a full quarter inch seem, keep the stitches small and regular. With light fabric I would draw a sewing line on with a pencil and on dark fabric I use 1/4 inch masking tape. It was easy to sew next to and can be used several times over. It used to be that you can buy the tape at a hardware store, they would cut it for you. I have not bought any in a long time so not sure if they still do it.
