Hi, I'm new to this site and made a baby quilt for my daughter that has red, yellow, and white in it. I need to find a way to wash this so the colors won't bleed. HELP! I hate washing fabric before I use it even though I know I should. But now am trying to find a way to wash it to make it nice and soft yet not have it bleed together. Thanks for any/all help!!!!

Welcome to the board from Southern California!!

The color cathers are a product made by Shout and the are a type of dye magnet. The help capture any loose dye that may be in the wash water. I use them for every quilt I wash. I do not pre-wash my fabrics either.

welcome to the board from SE Michigan. Color Catchers are a life saver for those who prefer not to prewash fabric. And they do work, I even used one on a quilt that has been washed before and found that I still had running dye, the sheet came out a light purple.

When I washed fabrics with the Color catchers and blue detergent, I got a blue-grey color catcher. When I used colorless detergents-nothing. I'm still going to use them as insurance, but I think to be sure you are seeing excess dye from your fabric, use clear detergent.
