5 yards of bias from 1 FQ
In case you missed Agnes' post about fat quarter ideas, the site she sent us to had a link for how to make 5 yards of bias out of one fat quarter. Keep in mind the person who wrote the tute only cut hers at 1 3/4". Great hint, none-the-less!

I used this method a couple years ago to bind a queen size quilt. I don't remember how many yards it took, but surprisingly little. For those who want to know, yes it does work for any width of bias you need, but of course you'll have to use more fabric if the strips are wider. This method has been around forever and can be found in old sewing books. I used to have a bookmark for a site that had a chart showing how much fabric you'd need to make strips of a certain width and length, but lost track of that when a computer crashed.

McCall's Quilting website also has a free video tutorial that shows how to do this. I used it to make bias binding for an 80x80 inch quilt that has a scalloped border. It is like magic to me! I really think I used a 30 inch square of fabric to make all that binding. I'm not at home, so can't look it up for sure. It was my first scalloped border and first bias binding. I love how it turned out, made it for my DD and she loves it, also.

This is the method my mama taught me long before I enroll in a sewing class in jr hi. I still use to this day. To cut it I use either scissors or put small cutting mat on the ironing board and use rotary cutter. Glad this method is still around. Thanks for the post. Referring it to my daughter.
