Binding Tutorial
What I like about this one is that it is filmed from behind, I don't have to guess if it's right or left.

Watched the video and it looked like they had trimmed the batting 1/4" longer than the quilt top. If this is correct was it so when we turned the binding to the back side it would fill in the binding completely? I find I have some empty space in mine at times.

Thank you that is a question I'd like answered also, sometimes I have it filled and other times not, which is correct?

I liked the video, but there is a much easier way to measure the binding length at the end. Start with binding end folded into a triangle and pressed well. The length of the part that is turned down is the length you need to trim at the end. Leave about eight inches free when you begin to sew it on, and stop about 16 inches from where you started to sew.
Overlap the two binding ends, find the base of the beginning triangle and cut the ending at that point. Open binding, place right sides together, and sew across on the pressed line in the beginning tail. Be sure to sew sideways, not up and down. If your pressed line goes up and down, twist the pieces so that it goes sideways.
After it is sewn, test to see if you did it right. Then trim seam and press the seam open. They didn't do that on the video. All binding seams should be pressed open.
I hope you can make sense of this and will be able to finish off your binding seams a little easier.

Thank you, for your help. I think I know the method your are trying to convay. And thanks especially for pressing the binding open. I believe it was a Marci Baker video that pointed out that the top part of the binding has to go further than the bottom and by pressing you have to force it around the corner. Hope that makes sense, but hand sewing the binding, which I love is so much easier without the crease.
