I'm very close to being finished with my Christmas gifts now. One just needs a label and one goes out in the mail today. So, I can maybe start focusing on this a little more.

My strips are mainly in the 1 1/2" or less with a couple 2 1/2" thrown in- so are taking me longer to do. Some wild ones thrown in, like she suggested to give it life;>

okay!
I had made a couple (and, I do mean couple) of extra blocks, just in case, and wouldn't you know? The "just in case" happened, and I am now ONE block short of the sixty I needed.
I started out this morning, trimming string blocks, and finally broke down, went into the big house and brought my smart cut back out with me. As the pictures show, put the block to be trimmed on your cutting mat, use the lines and the foundation to set the ruler on it, make two cuts without having to move anything, pick the ruler up, rotate the block, reposition ruler and VIOLA! Block trimmed.
and a picture of my stack so far - - as you can see, my "neutrals" have a lot of color in them. I figured if I am not going to like this quilt because of the pink, I might as well not really like this quilt (push the envelope, so to speak, JUST to see if it is going to be as bad as I imagined <g>)
anyway:

Shape cut - - NOT smart cut, but I thought I was pretty smart <g>

Cool!
By the way - - the way I can keep up is because I don't do Christmas just at Christmas ... at Christmas, if I haven't done something really good for someone during the year? Then I just write a check - - our children, except for our youngest daughter and her family (with whom we live), are all over the country, and I don't know what they need or want as much as they do, and we really appreciate the sales after Christmas, so the way I do Christmas is a bit different from others, but it does leave me pretty free <wave> wouldn't you know? I have to take computer to neighborhood fix-it guy, and I clicked on something this morning and everything seems back to normal - - sort of like having a DR appointment and immediately starting to feel better - - what's that all about??? LOL

well ... I am now all caught up (and, then some!)
Since I didn't bother to estimate the amount of fabric I needed for Part 4, I managed to produce over a hundred sets of 4- 2 patches + 4 2x2" squares, with one two patch and seven 2x2" squares left over.
Tomorrow will be busy, and I would really prefer to be working on the mystery quilt, but if I have time tomorrow, I will be going through the scraps I have left from all I have cut so far and start making these new scraps into blocks or bunkhouse braid strips. I have a LOT of foundation pieces that are too small for this project or my regular string quilt size, so I might as well put them to good use for a different quilt. <wave>

I'm still finishing my string/strip blocks. I worked all day on them yesterday and still have probably 2-3 hours left. Wow, these take a LONG time. Though, many of my strips and string are small. But still. Plan on a few days of work, just on these blocks!

I'm still working on my strip blocks too. I only have 20 done because I have to work and I also got sick. How does anyone get these done so quickly. I haven't even started part 4 yet. On a good note, today is the last day of classes before winter break! Yay, must hit the mall and get my Christmas shopping done.

8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

I still have 30 more string blocks to do- will try to knock some more out tonight. I find them pretty tedious-way out of my comfort zone. At least I have enough to work with in case we get to start piecing some of these parts together tomorrow.

They are very tedious! <snooze> I hope I like this one. I'll post pics of my blocks soon. Almost done, pant, pant.
