Has anyone done one of these - I bought the pattern but a bit scared to start even though the instructions seem simple enough.

Ruth - I haven't done one of these quilts but I have visited this site before, they have some amazing bargello quilts in the gallery - good luck with you quilt I love the idea of being able to change it.....you wouldn't get bored with seeing it then :D :D

Izy - saw the Bargello quilts - but the cameleon was just so unusual - haven't seen anything like it before. Started collecting the fabric - I am going to use hand dye fabric and hopefully tomorrow at the quilters guild's quarterly meeting I will be able to find the balance.

I have seen on other messages that you say that you dont have a good selection of fabric shops in Spain - have you tried hand dyeing? I did a course and ended up with about 24 pieces of fabric from all shades of the rainbow and we only used 3 fabric dyes. Would be happy to try and explain the method if you would like.

Ruth.....this is definitely on my 'to do' list, I have scoured the internet...ricky Timms is one of my favourites and he dyes all his own fabric....I had a play with some over the counter fabric dye, doing 'tie' dye, and I have had a go at 'discharging'...my only concern is getting the right chemicals so if you could head me in the right direction I would be very grateful....I read on one site that they do the mix in strong sealable plastic bags and just swish em about, that seemed like a good method to me, as I tend to get quite enthusiasic and would probably end up splattering everything around me lol!! If you can recommend any websites too I would appreciate it. :D

sorry to take so long to get back to you reqarding the fabric dyeing - I did it in a course and had to get permission to post. Turns out the lady who did the course, got the info from a course, and so we had to track back to get the okay.

Long story short - I now have permission but now I need to find the instructions - am on leave this week - so will try and post it to the tutorial section.

If you look at quilt number 5 it is an easier version. I think when I get caught up on most of my UFO's I am going to give number 5 a try. And to be sure I am going to buy it. Some Day...... :D Thanks for the link, really interesting, better then the same ol same ol :!:
