Mondale, I use this method and I am happy with it. Bias is easier to work with and makes a stronger binding.

Thanks for the video. It's taken away my hesitation to make bias binding!

Thank you for the link. I have seen this technique a few years back but it looked confusing but watching Beths video made it very doable

Those "mark, sew and cut" always seem too complicated for me. I just fold along the bias, then double fold so it will fit under my ruler, cut all the strips and then sew them together.

The method I learned is faster, can be rotary cut and makes miles at a time. Much faster that starting with a square. I start with a yard cut of fabric, fold it crosswise, turn the triangle area to the top, fold each side towards the middle, which leaves you an odd shape. Trim off the folded edges, and cut strips 2.5" inches all the way down. (If you square your sides before you fold the fabric it does make it easier to connect the strips.) sew my strips together, iron it in half, and apply to the quilt. I do end up with extra length of bias, but I am now cutting the leftovers down the crease and using the now 1.25" strips, I am crochetting a rag rug and this makes the strips all the same width.

I never cut bias for binding. WOF works great for me.

Onemoe, take a look at the method of making bias binding that I mentioned earlier in this post. In Shelley Rodgers method, you only get a seam every 42 or 43" (depends on WOF) and I don't find one hour to make enough bias binding for a King Sized quilt (430" +) to be that time consuming. Try it, you'll like it!

I have taken a picture of the method I use for making bias binding, it is the easiest way I've ever seen!
