Thanks for the site, I bookmarked it. My hubby bought me some software from ebay with a fabric calculator and it is awesome. It even allows to figure for different shapes and all that too. It was only like 1.99 with 4.99 shipping I think. It was worth it though because the lady threw in a demo dvd that shows step by step quilting as you go. I was more excited about that seeing how that is what I have asked questions about on here. Everyone was good to help but some things I need to see in front of me and do it to comprehend it. I stink at math too, hubby always has to help if I need to alter a pattern or figure something out.
Again thanks for the info.

Your Welcome! Hope many of you find it useful. I stumbled across it looking for a lesson plan for my kids that involves quilting and fractions (or I guess I should say fractions and quilting!). I have an observation coming up later this week and wanted something creative. In the end I think I am going to go with something a little simpler.
I did find a lesson called 13 ways of looking at a half which I am going to do. (any teachers out there interested in specifics let me know for more details!). It definitely lends itself to appreciating the beauty in a 1/2 square triangle!
I also wandered across a quilt block coloring page website that has lots of different patterns to play around when thinking about color choices.
