Just picked up the latest edition of McCall's Quick Quilts April/May at the local Walmart. Has quite a few good ideas/quilt tops.......just an FYI-and McCall's ad is telling about a new website they will be having.....videos/FREE...another reason not to join Fons/Porter for 39.95, for me anyway......

As a newbie, I love the Quick Quilt's Magazine. Great ideas that I can do. Right now I don't subscribe to any quilting magazines, I just buy one if there is something that catches my eye. Except for Jenny Doan's Quilting Quickly magazine. She's my hero. I agree with you, paying $40.00 a year for something that I "might" use 5% of just isn't a wise use of my money. F&P must be experiencing a decline in their Club membership, I got something the other day offering it for $29 now ... I've never subscribed to it but agree, it isn't something I'll use enough to pay that amt either ...

My quilt guild has magazine sales 4 times a year and at our quilt show every other year. For 25 cents/mag, I am not going to renew my subscriptions this time and see how that works out! Might as well save a few pennies if I can...more money for fabric LOL

All the magazines are having a very difficult time. I just got an email that I can buy McCalls quilting and quilters Newsletter both for a year for $25.00. Last year I got one subscription for my sister and one for me for the same price. I also have last years Better Homes and Gardens a year subscription for buying a cookbook. The internet is killing the printed business. Books, newspapers and magazines. We will be getting subscriptions online and reading the material on line as well. I like to read in the tub, so that is going to be pretty tricky!

Oh, Fons a Porter Love a quilting was a magazine I had. Last year I went on line to check some of the patterns they offered online. I couldn't log in! I had a subscription, it was early June, and my subscription went through October. They said I had to renew, and I couldn't use the web with out. So contrary person that I am, I elected to not get that magazine again.

Used to love my quilting mags.A cup of tea in winter/iced tea in summer,a new mag was great.Then,prices started to climb,the internet happened & I decided to let subscriptions lapse.

Between quilting forums,blogs,patterns & info,who has time for mags? Why pay for what we find free on line? Works for me.

Looking at a monitor just can't compare with the bright, glossy pictures in a magazine or smelling the fresh printer's ink or being able to curl up on the sofa with it. It is disconcerting, however, to find that half of most magazines are filled with full page ads. Does anyone really BUY all that stuff that's advertised??? Can't say I ever have.

Yep Quick Quilt's is a good magazine. My favorite is Jenny Doan's new magazine, I am planning a trip to her store soon, I am excited. I think she and her staff are the best. I had quit buying magazines, so pricey and full of ads, but I just got both Spring and Summer of Jenny's and will continue to buy hers. I can't wait to make some things in there.

I agree that buying the magazines have their advantages, like reading in the tub. But I still get the digital versions and just use my tablet to look through them while in the tub. I have a waterproof cover for my tablet, so that helps, but I find that I enjoy the digital versions better because if there's a video that goes along with the pattern, all you do is click (tap) on it and it takes you directly to the video. Also if there are pattern pieces you need to print, all you do is send it straight to your printer and it's done. Plus a digital version is usually cheaper, although I see that changing very soon with so many going to digital. The prices of magazines are ridiculously high and it's because of what it takes to produce them. I'm a graphic designer by trade and I worked for 2 different magazines and did the entire layout and design for them. What you saw in print is what my job was and it was a stressful, long and tedious job. I don't envy those people in the least.
