We have discussed bindings on here many times. I came across this video today. They talk about what a good binding is, what judges look for, why we should or should not use certain prints, problems associated with bindings, he covers just about everything you can imagine and THEN he said, you need to end sewing each side of the binding with a SCANT 1/4"...because you also have to allow for the folds just like in piecing... how simple, but how true!!! He sews them on using a 3/8" seam allowance, and also shows how to easily measure where to STOP sewing on each side... another light bulb went off...soooo simple but very effective.
This video is really worth watching, the explanations are very easy to follow, and he actually sits and sews on a binding, explaining everything in great detail as he goes along.

It's the second video in the line-up - Hollis Turnbow...

I was having a lot of trouble with the binding on my Downy Quilt I thought it was a hopeless disaster---then I found this video and what a life (quilt) saver!! I have to admit that I did find him a bit long winded at times, his explanations are very detailed and he tells you everything you need to know to get beautiful bindings.

Amma, you're so thoughtful to include the link for everyone.

I watched his video and learned alot from him. I do not have anything ready for binding just yet but when I do that is the way im going to do it. Binding is my least favorite thing about quilting.

my computer won't run the video. I don't know why I have this problem. I guess it is dial up.
