by mistake i put the tape in wrong and it didn't work right, so the numbers , in the concave, face you when the bag is done,

what i have is made by Scotch, and i think my husband either got it at Home Depot or Lowes, i swiped it from his repair stuff, oh, the tape measure , tape keeps going back into the holder, so now i guess i'll have to get hubby to take it apart, he already got it out once, the lock on it doesn't work good on some of the cheap tapes.!!!!!

Thanks! I sometimes go to Lowe's and Home Depot with my husband, there are all kinds of interesting things there, but he is not a looker...he gets what he is going after and then he's ready to go! Maybe I'll have to go alone sometimes!

Hi I have not made one yet but cant quite grasp how the tape works. if you put the pieces of tape in with the numbers facing the outside then how do the keep the opening closed as the curves of the rulars are different next to each other so how do they cling together to keep the top closed.

    My printed instructions :
Cut 2 pieces of metal measuring tape One inch shorter than the width of the finished bag. Round off the sharp corners & cover with tape (duct, electrical, even painters tape).(to keep it from poking through the fabric. -I've also used double the measuring tape for larger bags.
When you get ready to insert the measuring tape into the casing Make sure the numbers face the outside (pretty side) of the bag. If you don't put the tape in right you won't get the snap that closes the bag. Put a piece of the measuring tape in both ends of the bag.
Make sure the tape is 1/2" shorter than the bag on each end so that you don't sew over it when sewing the side.

hi if you put each piece of tape with the number facing the outside then they will be back to back and not work. Do you mean that the two pieces of tape should both face the same way.

I did it just the way the instructions said & I only have a small one here-gave the rest away. I can feel it through the fabric & YES the numbers (on the concave side or curved in side) both face outward. Mine works. The sides with no numbers wind up back to back.

My problem was that I managed to get a metal tape measure with numbers on both sides
