I made one of these at Christmas time as my part in the gift exchange. I used this pattern. It is easy to do and comes out wonderful! I put some balsam needles in with the stuffing so it smelled nice too.

This one is especially sweet because you can adjust the size and it makes up so beautifully. I used a royal blue cotton with a small red/white design to it. I quilted it myself before making it into the heart.
It looks good in the size recommended. Not too big, but impressive.

Our guild made large sizes of these a few years ago. We put rice in the bottom 1/3 of the heart so the pincushion would sit up and not flop over. The ones that members put extra effort to spiff it up with embroidery stitches, quilting and details like fancy stick pins sold for $25. The plain ones sold for $10-$15. These were very large about 8" - 10" hearts.
