I piece my backings to use up left over yardage if appropriate. When seaming my pieces together, I use the factory edges as a guide to keep my seam straight but I also sew with a smaller stitch lenghth and a 1/2 to 5/8 inch seam allowance. After seam is sewn, I trim off the the selvages and them press open. It is much easieer to longarm this way.
great ideas... I often get locked in on the idea that the backing should all be one fabric....
attitude is everything...the rest will fall into place.
Awhile back someone mentioned to have most of your seams going horizontal as when they're going vertical you end up with a bump as you advance your quilt (if using a frame). I was always having trouble keeping my quilt straight due to this reason so this last time while using all my scraps (mostly full width) I seamed across. Now will be the test to see if it helps.
Thanks for all the great info received on this site from you'all.
