    Iris folding templates

Not sure what it is but I found this a few months ago, and the Twisted Log cabin thread reminded me of it. Looks almost like paper piecing patterns??

Iris folding is paper folding with different papers for fared making, never thought about using the templates for quilting, I think it would probably be better using foundation piecing rather than paper piecing.

I've often wondered if I can use this for quilting.

I have saved many of these patterns and one day will try it as a foundation pieced block. They are so neat.
I've seen pictures on "Pinterest" where some have actually folded fabric (as if it were paper) and stitched them down. As you add layers of fabric the design becomes 3 dimensional because of the fabric thickness. They then framed the block without glass. They were beautiful hanging on a wall as art.
Keep smiling, it makes others wonder what you're up to!

I haven't tried it yet but I have some books on fabric folding and it looks like fun.

I hadn't seen them before but I am sure you can use them for quilting. Just watch out for too thick of seams coming together at one point. That might becomes a problem.

Thes patterns are similar to those designed by RaNae Merrill in her books Mandala Quilts.her web site is www.ranaemerrillquilts.com. I love them and have tried a few but not made a quilt as yet.

I'm not too experienced in the quilting world yet, so I have no idea what the difference is between paper piecing and foundation piecing. Can someone share the difference?

These terms can be used interchangeably, but paper piecing can also mean English paper piecing. That is a hand sewing technique in which paper templates have fabric basted around them and then are whip stitched together. Also, sometimes people will use a thin fabric as a foundation that is left in the quilt of a foundation pieced block. I hope this makes some sense to you.
