It does seem easy. However, when you draw the line, you get two HST's. This looks like it only yields one? Isn't that more waste?

I fold one piece in half, iron, put it on the other square and stitch along side, or on the crease, depending on what I need to do.

Personally, I'd take a 3x5 card and cut 45 degrees off one end. That way I'd have a long straight edge to lay against the top/left side of the two pieces of fabric.
