Michael's also bought out Pat Catan. Prices at both local stores went up. Not happy, there is now no competition. Local hobby lobby has limited apparel fabric. Same with local joannes. So if you only quilt you can get what you want. If you have multiple interests, too bad!

wow, I never knew that. I thought "crafts" would for sure include quilting. What are there, something like 20 million people in the US who are quilters of one sort or another? Missing out on a HUGE market.

It's a craft store. Kinda like a Hobby Lobby with narrow aisles.

No fabric at the Los Angeles Michael's, but my sister loves them for their yarns and other crafty stuff.

Nope, I've never seen a Michael's carry fabric. I think they usually set up shop very close to JoAnn's and just don't compete in the fabric market.

Never seen fabric at our Michaels stores... What they bought of Hancocks was their databases, not their inventory. I haven't used a Michaels store in years. They have a selection of crappy yarns, very little sewing stuff, so nothing I'm interested in. I think the last thing I bought at a Michaels was a light box with a coupon.
