It is interestingly similar to the continuous prairie point tutorial on sewtakeahike.typepad.com (

Fascinating how we stumble into these unique methods.

That was my first thought as well. But I saw a picture earlier of an antique quilt and this may be a good method to try the zig zags on that quilt. Thanks for sharing.

It looks like it's all appliqued, but this method would be PERFECT for the sashing.
