    Old Country store, intercourse, PA

I got an email from Old country store that they had closed. I loved that store. Does anyone know why?

They're going into bankruptcy and selling everything off. They blame changes in the publishing industry.

I thought it was just the internet store!

Edit: Just went to my trash folder and there it is! The store is closing! How sad! I loved that store!

The economy is causing lots of small businesses to close. It's a shame that this one has had to close.

Not the economy. Bad management. Hopefully, someone will come along and buy it and reopen it.

I have to agree that in this case, it probably wasn't the economy. The Old Country Store was always busy. I've been there at various times of the year and they were always doing a brisk business. They appear to have had many loyal customers who didn't hesitate to spend money in their store or through their online business. If you read the articles listed throughout the board, you will see that the owner had other interests for which he most likely used the excess profit from his successful business ventures. While the economy in general has struggled, I don't think this particular store would have gone bankrupt if it stood alone. Then again, who really knows? Maybe more information will be forthcoming.

Sorry, but I think this is just the beginning. A lot of smaller stores are beginning to close.

I'm so disappointed. I live in Lancaster and that was my go-to store for really good fabric. Soooooo sad.
