Lightbulb Piecing quilting blocks in the embroidery hoop

I watched a video on Sewing with Nancy's link about how to make quilt blocks in the hoop. Has anyone tried doing this technique? You can watch the video here:

Thumbs up

There are several embroidery sites that design ITH quilt-blocks. You can google the term "ITH quilt blocks" and there will be thousands of names to choose from, eg Dainty Stitches, Molly Mine, Embroidery Library ....... Enjoy!

ETA - I like doing ITH blocks....especially if I want a pretty picture in the middle

Why do they have you use cutaway stabilizer when making a quilt blocks in the hoop? Mine is coming out too stiff. Should I be using a washaway instead?

Try no-show mesh. You may need to add a float piece of stabilizer depending on the sitch count of the design.

For most designs, hoop the no show mesh. Then layer the batting and background fabric follloiwing the steps in the design.

I saw this video some years ago with Nancy and a guest hostess. It was really cute. I haven't tried it though. I could see where the crazy quilt blocks could be beneficial done this way.
