I just made one and like the center bow about 1/2" smaller than rest of bow.... I tried it both ways. All 5 squares same and then center smaller. Will be posting in next few days. it is a easy one onece all is cut. fast to sew together as well.

What size squares would I start with to end up with a 12.5 inch block?

This is one of the easiest and most fun blocks I have done. I couldn't get the book, 10-Minute Blocks, at my LQS, but found it this summer at my favorite Montana quilt shop when I visited this summer...am currently making a lap quilt using 2 charm packs plus a little yardage of the 2011 Minnesota fabric...I'll try to post pics when it's done...I'm a newbie at that sort of thing!

I'm not positive but I think that 7" squares will make 12.5.
