40 minute scrap quilt tutorial ...
Just found this on Youtube and thought wow this IS a great way to use up scraps instead of resorting to buying jelly rolls ... I think the technique might be similar to the jelly roll quilt race

Had to watch in 'silent' mode here at work, but loved the video. That fabric is far too delicious to be considered "scrap!" LOL

I made my daughter a denim scrap quilt like this for Christmas this past year, and backed it with a blue and white stripped fab. and used multi colored Emb. thread to tie the quilt - way to heavy to try and do any quilting on it. I just cut 2 1/2" strips and put them together at the 45 degree angle and sewed them in the same fashion. I had already made two jelly roll tops, and since DD wanted a denim quilt and time was squeesing in on me, decided to use this method. Worked fine and looked pretty good I thought. A denim quilt is heavy enough to make a warm quilt in colder country, and she lives in the Mountain area of Tx., doesn't really get extremely cold and stay for an extended time, but does get cold out here.

I loved watching this video and the way she interacts with the music. I am going to try this method. Thanks for sharing the link.

Great web site, just like the 1600 quit.

I was interested to see she used the equivilent of 30 strips as the original jelly roll race calls for 40, but it seems her dimensions worked out just fine. I've done something similar but cut mine 3" as I was using whole width fabric. It was a bit dicey to get the right length but I was happy with the result using all B/W fabrics. I want to try this as a truly scrappy as I have a lot of short pieces 1/8-1/4th yard I don't really care for. I thought of using a blender/solid that would help tie the colours in every three of four strips. Hmm. Maybe this will be my next project.

I enjoyed this video. I would like to see one of these in reds, whites and blues. May have to put it on the someday list.
