I watched the whole video...the quilts using this simple block is amazing. Has anyone else made these? This is not the 10 min block, which was also pretty cool. I do like this look better though.

DianneK 09-12-2012 05:06 AM

wow, I love them in boarders!

Tartan 09-12-2012 05:36 AM

I haven't yet but I do want to try the scalloped border effect soon.

BellaBoo 09-12-2012 05:41 AM

I love the scalloped circle place mat. That one design sold me on the book.

vondae 09-12-2012 08:16 AM

Is the book out yet? I've looked for it, but, haven't found it.

BellaBoo 09-12-2012 08:55 AM

For some reason it's on a long order from Amazon. I ordered one and it will be a one to two month shipping time. I could order it at other websites but pay over twice as much plus shipping. I don't mind waiting for the book.

Halfsquare 09-14-2012 08:29 AM

Cool- I just don't know about all the wasted fabric in the folded piece???

Yooper32 09-14-2012 01:23 PM

Now, this one has got my attention, big time. Thanks so much Carol for sharing it. I think even I can do this one.

Elfi2 09-14-2012 02:01 PM

Thanks you for sharing. This method can turn simple work into great quilts!!!

maryellen2u 09-14-2012 02:56 PM

I want to do this NOW! Has anyone tried it. What sizes are the pieces of fabric? Does it matter as long as they are all the same size? I need to make a Halloween gift. I think I see a Halloween table runner done with a few 5 minute blocks!

I was thinking the same thing about the wasted fabric used to make the "pocket".

It seems like an easy block...I just don't want to waste fabric (unless I am missing something with the extra fabric).

Have a great weekend everyone :)

JNCT14 10-16-2012 04:07 AM

I just posted a baby quilt under Pictures using the 5 minute block. It came out wicked cool.http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...l-t203348.html

grammy of 6 10-16-2012 07:17 AM

I also would rather not waste the material, but if I have to in order to get this great block, I guess I'll have to.
Does anyone have a secret so material is not wasted?

I am not sure you are actually wasting fabric. I say that because if you used a regular triangle for piecing the block, you would have to cut off the corner of the rectangle so the reality is that you are just swapping one for the other (if that makes sense).

BellaBoo 10-17-2012 05:11 AM

I finally got the book. At first the block was confusing as the bottom of the triangle seemed to be 1/2" longer then the bottom of the block. With careful folding and pressing it worked out fine. I used layer cakes cut in half to make the blocks so it took less time then 5 min. to make.

batikmystique 10-26-2012 04:33 PM

This looks so easy! I was really amazed at the different looks depending upon how the block was turned. Definitely a pattern to keep, especially if you need to make a quilt in a hurry for a gift. Thanks, for posting!

snipforfun 10-26-2012 07:43 PM

My book came today from Amazon. Quick service

BETTY62 10-26-2012 08:01 PM

I just watched the video and love this block. Thank you for sharing.

BellaBoo 10-27-2012 08:36 AM

I never thought to worry about the waste of fabric for this block. The ease of it is worth more to me then saving a little fabric. I used layer cake pre cut fabric and had enough blocks sewn for a quilt top in less then 20 min. No cutting or measuring just straight chain piecing. Great for a fast quilt that looks time consuming. I look at my stack of layer cake bundles and see quilts!

jojo47 11-30-2012 05:44 PM

I love Suzanne McNeil's books! I'm waiting for the 5-minute block book to come to my LQS...Thanks for sharing the info!

Momma_K 12-01-2012 11:48 AM

So, the measurements for this block is basically a 10" square cut in half? I tried this last night and came up short on one end of the triangle. How do you fix?? HELP!! :o Thanks!!

BellaBoo 12-02-2012 09:06 AM

The rectangle size is important to get the two to match up. I found that out when I cut a 10" square in half and sewed the block. The goose block was too long when pressed opened. The book has a size to cut the fabric for a small or large block so they sew up perfectly. This is left out of the youtube video.

grammy of 6 12-02-2012 09:18 AM

Which book do you have? I want to get one, but don't know which one to get first. There is also the 5 minute block, right? how about that one?

BellaBoo 12-04-2012 09:08 AM

There are three books, two for the 10 minute blocks and one for the 5 minute block. I bought all three at one time so I can't offer which one is the best to get first. These type of books go out of print fast.
