Fabric Box Tutorial and My Results

2 Attachment(s)
I found this adorable tutorial for boxes made of fabric, and thought they would be perfect for my dear sister-in-law's birthday.

http://seaside-stitches.blogspot.com...-tutorial.html

I made a 12" and a 14". The 14" is a much nicer size, and there was less wrestling with the fabric. I don't think I would ever do one smaller than 12" unless I used a lower loft batting. They only took about an hour each to make, so it's a great quick project. Hers definitely look "crisper" than mine, but I'm pretty happy with the result.

What a cool idea. I am making some raffle pieces for some fun at work and these little boxes would be perfect in Halloween material, filled with candy. Thanks for the link. This is sort of meant to be, just when I was looking for something different!:D

caroloto 09-24-2013 05:03 PM

Those are sure cute! Thanks for sharing the pattern, can't wait to make a few!

Now on the 14" what size did you do in the corners? It seem that she did 2" in the 10" and 2 1/2" in the 12" so I'm wondering if for every even inches you would either add or subtract a 1/2 inch?

bjsmith57 09-24-2013 05:47 PM

Very nice - thanks for sharing.

great tutorial.....gonna make some of these....might try using double sided pre quilted fabric...got some I need to use...these would make nice little gifts or put on a table with mints or nuts for the Holidays....all kinds of possibilities....

AZ Jane 09-25-2013 08:22 AM

Love them and I do think she used a flatter batting, judging from the pics. Gotta try one!!

greencat 09-25-2013 10:00 AM

Nice work on the boxes! I actually ran into this site a few weeks ago and have this project bookmarked. Love the different sizes to keep 'stuff' organized and neat...great for gifts too.

caspharm 09-25-2013 10:51 AM

thanks for the link.

raksmum 09-25-2013 11:22 AM

Thanks for the link. I need a baby gift and this would be cute to make and fill with baby things. I think I would make the 14" one. Did you stitch the corners at 2.5" for the 14" or bigger than that?

What are the dimensions of the 14" when it is finished?

Thanks again!

gramquilter2 09-25-2013 12:20 PM

Great project, they will make nice gifts.

That is so cute...

frenchfryqueen 09-26-2013 06:28 PM

For the 14", I did the corners at 3". They came out great at that length.

Finished dimensions of the 14" are about 5x5x5.

I love hearing all your ideas. I think I may end up doing some for Christmas too. I really am having fun sewing, Brat!

Maggie_Sue 09-26-2013 07:09 PM

These boxes are just as cute as can be!! Thank you for this great idea!!

Great idea...tried it and this is the result using 14". Think I will share with quilty friends as a holiday gift idea.

ube quilting 10-05-2013 04:09 PM

I made five of them today and will post pictures on Sunday 6th. They turned out real cute. I used scraps of warm & Natural batting and made a 9", 2 @11", and 2@ 12". Another addiction I don't want to cure!

Thanks again for posting the link.
peace

caroloto 10-05-2013 05:18 PM

Very nice Chasezzz! It turned out great!

paulswalia 10-06-2013 12:18 PM

If you start with 16 inch squares and do 2.5 inch corners they come out to be the perfect size to store charms in. I'm thinking of making some in different colors that will match the colors of charms stored inside them.

hamchips88 10-06-2013 04:53 PM

very cute idea thank you for sharing.....

Can you post a picture of one? Did it turn out wider on the bottom then the top doing the 2 1/2"?
