This is a neat method for making Flying Geese. Nice illustrations, too!

The best gadget for flying geese is from Quilt-in-a-day. It is fast and makes the pieces a snap. Note my attached photo, using the great template. Well worth getting. S.

Yes, Burns method is the best. She also has the best method for half sq triangles.

Hi Boo , this is Ann. Thanks for illustrated link. I am new to quilting and all help is greatly appreciated !

I practiced the method this morning, and though I didn't get exact geese due to my nominal abilities on the sewing machine, the results were darn near perfect. Half my problem is that I worked with the smallest geese; I think next time that I do them I'll shoot for something a little larger.

I'd seen this done on Youtube where someone constructed geese through the various methods. The comment made there was that this was by far the easiest and quickest method. I know I wasn't working for speed this morning, but found it relatively simple. Very cool!

Thanks Boo, you always have such helpful suggestions. I copy and pasted the chart and directions into my quilt file. It looks very easy to do.

I agree El. Burns method is the best, especialy if you are not good at making things exact. This way there is room for error since you cut off the extra to make 4 perfect geese.

hey Steve, did you know you can make flying geese with only one seam? yep ~saw it myself on a video on the new Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims show online. example: take a 3 x 3 square, lay it down right side up; add a rectangle of material that is cut to 3 x 5.5 folded on top of that. the folded piece is right side out with the fold toward the bottom. now the top of the ends will not match, don't worry about that. add another 3 x 3 inch square on top of the sandwich with the right side down. sew along the right seam. turn it open and mash the center part down so it makes a triangle. wallah ! hope i explained it ok. patty

Got lost but think I saw the video. Will go to the show site and check it out.

Nope, I was wrong. I saw the geese on her old show site, the new one requires membership.
