This IS easy; however, you do have bias edges on the outside (as opposed to through the stitched center where they would be stabilized right away). You have to be careful with them. It does, however, make HSTs FAST and very accurate.

the method is great, but there's something about it i can't understand. maybe someone can explain. she started out with 5" charms. i checked by counting the inches on her cutting mat. then toward the end she said she ends up with approximately 5-1/4" squares. so, after you deduct the seam allowances, how can you end up with a bigger square than you start out with?

were her measurements really right? i don't understand how that works. did you use the 5" charms? what size did you end up with?

This is the best tip I've ever read! I just finished cutting up my squares for a pinwheel baby quilt. But for the next one, this will be great! Hugs

great idea will try this out asap this is a sure way to get rid of any "old, ugly,outdated, why did I buy this fabric" on my cupboard shelves and turn it all into beautiful quilts.
