A (free) "Twister" pattern

I know alot of people here on the board have the "Twister" tool... here's a tutorial for a really cute quilt using it. Now where did I put my "Twister"? LOL!

Thanks for the link. I bought the Lil Twister a year ago and now I can finally make one.

I liked that, I even have the same fabrics to do it. Picked them up on Red Tag table. I made one quilt but have enough for this left over.

I have two sizes of the twister tool but haven't made the quilt yet. This tutorial gives great directions and now I'm inspired. Thanks for the post.

What is a twister tool? Thanks, Lois

That is a terrific idea. I've made several Wreath Wall Hangings & also designed one with a cross with a robe draped over it. When I saw yours I was thinking, wouldn't it be nice to do one like that , but with Trip Around The World? Just thinking.

Oooh... please share pictures of yours -- they sound fabulous! And I think a TATW would be awesome, too!

This looks so cool, can you do it without the tool? I've checked uk websites and no one seems to stock it :(

You can make your own, if you are able to find these in the UK: http://www.shopfonsandporter.com/pro...-and-templates I bought the pack of these rulers and made them in the different sizes but can still use them for doing fussy cuts.

Hope these images will help you figure out how and where the X needs to be. https://www.google.com/search?q=make...iw=853&bih=375

And the google search should help you too! Here is the link: https://www.google.com/search?q=make...e=utf8&oe=utf8

I love the finished blocks that the tool gives, but it looks like it may waste a lot of fabric. Am I missing how the remaining cut away fabric is being used?

You can then use the smaller twister ruler on the left over, just have to be careful when you cut out the bigger ones and make a mini version of the same pattern. Some will make a hot pad or table mat out of them with the smaller ruler. Or they will use the smaller cut out twister in the boards, like in the corners.

I have somewhere and believe it's in with the Fons and Porter fussy cut rulers what size template to use with what size block. I will look and post it here for all in a few days.

caroloto 11-28-2013 11:39 PM

Since I don't own the twister rulers from C S Design, I can't give you the block size for them yet I'm sure the block size would be about the same for most of them. I know my friend owns all of the CS Design twister rulers and seem the block square size is the same.

For the Fons and Porter Fussy cut 5 ruler set:
Finshed size for fussy cut is writen on the ruler, ( ) is the the true size of the ruler.
Size Block size square Border size Mark Line from 4 corners
2" (2 1/2") 4" 2 or 2 1/2" 1/2"
3" (3 1/2") 5" 3" 3/4"
4" (4 1/2") 6" 3 1/2 or 4" 1"
5" (5 1/2") 7" 4" 1 1/4"
6" (6 1/2") 8 1/2"might be able to use 8" 5" 1 1/2

On the Tailor (June Tailor) Twist 'n Stitch Pinwheel Block Ruler 3" to 10" finshed blocks:
Size Block size square Border
3 1/2" 5" 3"
5" 6 3/4" 4"
6 1/2" 8 1/2" 5"
8" 10 1/4" 6"
10 1/2 13" 8"

according to what others had written, you can make the next size down block
Now I am not sure exactly what they mean, but that is what i read and saw on videos utube etc

What it means is that you take the next size smaller Twister tool and place it on the waste and cut around all four sides of the tool and you will have squares that you can use for another project. You said you'd like to do a dog and other animals. There are other animals out there that are already Twister patterns. Some Twister animals that are patterns are: bunny, crab, ladybug, turkey, owl, cat, dog and spider.

SulaBug 03-08-2014 12:01 AM

I love this pattern & have ear marked it for the future. Thank you so much for sharing with all of us!!
