Thank you for this. I have an ugly box of tissues in the car. This is much smaller and much prettier! And I found a store here in Waterloo to purchase those hankies.

Thank you for the link. I am not a hankie person however a friend of mine did tatting on one for me when my daughter got married and I treasure it however I only used it that day and put it away. Now I know what to do with it so it will be used. I have since lost that friend to cancer so it will be double special to me.

Nice idea. Did you look at the vintage picture frame pin cushion linked on the same site? I really love it. These would both be great with hand or machine embroidery. The tissue holder could be made from an extra quilt block and finish the edges with bias tape or a border.

That's a great idea. Too bad I don't have any old hankies like that, but BQF does & has been wondering what she might do with all the hankies she has.

You can do the exact same thing with pre-made (or handmade) place mats. You can spend extra $$'s on just one fancy one that you really like because you don't need an entire set. Because they are heavier (have more body) you can add beads, buttons or any trim you like. I've made some really beautiful and unusual ones for gifts several years ago.
