I have made several french braid quilts. I wanted to share with you that I put sashing in between the rows. It is much easier than lining up all the edges and it also looks good. Right now I am working on a scrap quilt and I am going to use my french braids as the outer border. And, you are correct. It is a great way to use up the scraps. One last thing, you can make them any size as long as the length is 3xs the width of the strip. In other words, if you have a 3inch width then it should be 9 inches long. Or, if you are using a 1.5 inch width - then your length would be 4.5 inches. I like the fact that you can use any size you like.
