OMG! This reminds me of kindergarten and the flannel board that my teacher used to use...except it was green! Great idea! thanks for posting.

When I first saw this, it inspired me to make a portable design board that would stand up next to my sewing machine. For some reason, I need to have my blocks "standing:" when they were lying next to the machine, I STILL managed to mess them up! Definitely not as cute as her's as I didn't put any cute fabric around the edges. But I did end up with two sides, so lay out two blocks at a time. (The one shown is from when I was working on Easy Street, so this must have been early this year. That quilt's done!) It's about 20" x 20" on each side.

Yours is the way that I made mine too. The only difference is ours is that I made a 'pillowcase' out of flannel and slipped the board into the case (the board had been scored so it would fold). I then sewed a length of ribbon to each side of the board about six inches from the bottom. I stitched a decorative flower on top of the ribbon to hide the raw edges. This enabled me to tie the board so it would stand up - otherwise it wanted to slide open. Results was that I actually have four design boards. I can pin the pieces to the board with straight pins if I am not going to sew the pieces right away.

I use this as much as I use my wall design board. Love it!

Love these-thanks for sharing. I'm going to make a few of them since I don't have room for a proper design wall.
